Writing a Memoir/Biography for Publishing
Have you ever thought that you would like to write your memoirs? Perhaps you or someone you know has lived a life so extraordinary that the story needs to be told…?
But where do you start?
During this session you’ll discover some of the important points you need to know before writing and submitting your book for publishing.
• Creating your skeleton (and how to get the best out of your closet!)
• Asking the right questions
• Setting the tone
• Whether to air your laundry
• What’s the hook?
• How long should it be?
• What elements should it include?
As it’s a personal journey for everyone, no two stories are the same.
This informal talk will give you the opportunity to ask questions from a best selling autobiography ghost writer and publisher.
Taryn has always written, she had her first short story published aged 13. However, it wasn’t until six years ago that she truly celebrated her passion for books and writing, by setting up her own independent publishing company, in Lincolnshire. Since then she has helped coach writers from most genres and delighted in publishing some incredible books both fiction and non-fiction. In the last twelve months she has seen 3 of her authors appear on national TV and one be a finalist in this year’s Business Book of the Year. This year she created Kronos Publishing, an independent publishing company, solely dedicated to telling life stories.
Taryn Johnston, owner of Kronos Publishing & FCM Publishing, specialises in Life Stories, her books include I’m Champion, Call Me Bob by Bob Champion MBE, Adapted by Josh Barry, Oh! I Remember Him by Mike McClean and The Spice Queen by TV Chef Parveen Ashraf.
Taryn says “Being trusted to tell someone’s life story is a gift. Knowing someone’s life so intimately, living their highs and lows gives you a responsibility to write that story with all the love & compassion that you have. After all you’re opening a door into that life and inviting readers to walk through it. Do so with honesty and care.”
